Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Wildlife Biologist / Ecologist to join our dynamic environmental team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for an international candidate, as we are prepared to offer sponsorship for the right individual. You will contribute to a diverse range of ecological projects, focusing on baseline surveys, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies for various developments. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality ecological advice and reports, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices. This position is ideal for an individual passionate about wildlife conservation and keen to develop their career within a leading global consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys for protected species and habitats, including but not limited to bats, great crested newts, birds, and badgers.
  • Perform ecological impact assessments (EcIA) for development projects in line with relevant legislation and planning policies.
  • Develop and implement ecological mitigation and enhancement strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive ecological reports, including preliminary ecological appraisals, protected species survey reports, and EcIAs.
  • Provide expert ecological advice to clients and project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with tender preparations and contribute to business development activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and best practice guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in conducting a variety of ecological field surveys.
  • Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Full valid driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant ecological discipline.
  • Holds protected species licenses (e.g., bat, great crested newt, badger).
  • Membership of a professional body such as CIEEM (Associate or Full Member).
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management or coordination of ecological projects.
