Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Domestic Violence Advocacy Intern to join our team at the San Antonio Women’s & Children’s Advocacy Center. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in crisis intervention, victim advocacy, and social services within a critical support setting. The intern will work closely with experienced advocates, providing crucial support to survivors of domestic violence and assisting with the daily operations of our crisis center. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about social justice, human rights, and making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable populations. Full training will be provided to ensure the intern is well-equipped to handle the responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist seasoned advocates in providing direct support and advocacy to domestic violence survivors.
  • Help facilitate crisis intervention services, including safety planning and emotional support.
  • Provide information and referrals to community resources, legal aid, housing, and counseling services.
  • Assist with intake procedures and client record management, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Support victims through accompanying them to court, law enforcement interviews, or medical appointments when appropriate.
  • Participate in outreach and community education initiatives to raise awareness about domestic violence.
  • Contribute to the organization and maintenance of resource materials and client files.
  • Attend team meetings, training sessions, and supervision sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Perform general administrative duties as assigned to support center operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Prior volunteer experience in a social service or advocacy setting (not mandatory, but a plus).
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care principles.
