Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on City Bike Share Fleet Mechanic to join our growing team in Lichfield. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about cycling and urban mobility. As an Outdoor Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for the proactive repair, maintenance, and quality control of our electric and pedal-assist bike fleet across the city. You will work independently in the field, ensuring our bikes are safe, operational, and readily available for our users. This role involves both preventative maintenance and reactive repairs, often working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on our fleet of bikes (electric and pedal-assist) in the field.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, including brakes, gears, tires, chains, and battery systems.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure bikes meet safety and operational standards before redeployment.
  • Utilize our proprietary software to track maintenance activities, log repairs, and manage inventory of parts.
  • Respond to service requests and relocate bikes as needed to ensure optimal distribution and availability.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, communicating issues and solutions to supervisors and colleagues.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including company vehicles and equipment.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in bike mechanics, electric bike repair, or a related field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Familiarity with various bike components and repair techniques.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working independently outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid UK driving licence with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25kg, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications in bike mechanics (e.g., Cytech qualifications).
  • Experience with electric bike diagnostics and battery systems.
  • Previous experience in a fleet maintenance or field service role.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.
