Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled City Bike Share Fleet Mechanic to join our team in Buffalo, NY. This role is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency and safety of our bike share fleet. The successful candidate will be responsible for the hands-on inspection, maintenance, and repair of bicycles, primarily in outdoor settings across various bike share stations. This position requires a proactive individual with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoys working outdoors and contributing to a vital community service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine diagnostic checks, maintenance, and repairs on a fleet of bicycles at various outdoor stations.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections of all tools and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to brakes, gears, chains, tires, and other components.
  • Replace worn or damaged bicycle parts using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Ensure all bikes meet safety and operational standards before being made available to users.
  • Balance and redistribute bikes across different stations to optimize availability and demand.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor weather conditions.

Required Skills

  • Proven mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of bicycle components and repair techniques.
  • Ability to effectively use hand tools and basic power tools.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods in an outdoor environment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (1+ year) as a bicycle mechanic or in a similar fleet maintenance role.
  • Familiarity with bike share systems and their operational demands.
  • Experience with electric bikes (e-bikes) and their specific maintenance requirements.
  • Certification from a recognized bicycle repair program.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
