Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Urology Nurse Specialist to join our dedicated team. This role involves providing advanced nursing care to patients with urological conditions, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of urology, excellent clinical skills, and a commitment to patient education and support. This is a crucial role in our urology department, focusing on both inpatient and outpatient care, and offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for urology patients.
- Provide specialized nursing care for various urological conditions, including prostate, bladder, kidney, and urinary incontinence issues.
- Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment options, medication management, and lifestyle modifications.
- Assist with urological procedures, including cystoscopies, prostate biopsies, and catheter placements.
- Manage and monitor patient symptoms, respond to changes in condition, and administer medications as prescribed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with urologists, residents, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Required Skills
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a urology or related specialty.
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or advanced practice certification (e.g., NP, CNS).
- Certification in Urology Nursing (e.g., CURN, OCN).
- Experience with advanced urological procedures and technologies.
- Experience in patient education and counseling.
