Job Description
Lawrence Public Schools is seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join our team as Public School Bus Drivers. This is a vital role, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school on designated routes within the Lawrence area. This position operates strictly during school terms, allowing for flexibility during school breaks. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on scheduled routes, adhering to all traffic laws and district policies.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, reporting any mechanical defects or safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus, following established district guidelines and promoting a positive environment.
- Ensure the timely pick-up and drop-off of students at designated stops, strictly adhering to schedules.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school staff, and dispatch personnel.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately, including mileage logs, student rosters, and incident reports.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, following established safety procedures and protocols.
Required Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Clean driving record, free of major infractions for the past 5 years.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and ongoing random drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check as required by state and federal regulations.
- Strong commitment to student safety and welfare.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with children and parents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a school bus driver or commercial driver.
- Familiarity with Lawrence area roads, traffic patterns, and school locations.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
