Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Public Sector Fleet Dispatcher to join our Transport Department. In this vital role, you will be responsible for coordinating the daily deployment and operation of our municipal fleet, ensuring optimal utilization and timely response to service requests. You will be the central communication point, managing logistics, tracking vehicles, and collaborating with various city departments to support their operational needs. This position requires excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, prioritize, and dispatch service requests to appropriate fleet vehicles and personnel.
  • Monitor real-time vehicle locations and operational status using GPS and dispatch software.
  • Maintain constant communication with drivers, field staff, and internal departments regarding assignments, delays, and critical updates.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, safety protocols, and city policies.
  • Document dispatch activities, incidents, mileage, and service records accurately.
  • Assist in the development and optimization of daily routes and schedules.
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs with the fleet maintenance division.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies, breakdowns, and unexpected operational changes.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions and information to drivers and field personnel.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in dispatching, logistics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in using dispatch software, GPS systems, and standard office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of geographical areas within Houston and surrounding regions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a public sector, government, or large-scale fleet operation.
  • Associate's degree or higher in logistics, transportation management, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safety standards.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).
  • Certification in dispatching or emergency communications.
