Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Fire Safety / Protection Engineer to join our thriving team in Colwyn Bay. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cutting-edge fire safety systems for a diverse portfolio of projects. Your expertise will cover conducting thorough fire risk assessments, developing robust fire strategies, and ensuring strict compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. You will collaborate closely with architects, clients, and various construction teams to integrate advanced fire safety solutions seamlessly into building designs, with the ultimate goal of protecting life and property. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive fire safety strategies for various building types and occupancy classes.
  • Conduct detailed fire risk assessments and provide expert recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Design and specify fire detection, suppression (e.g., sprinklers, gas suppression), and alarm systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with UK fire safety legislation, building regulations (e.g., Approved Document B), and British/European standards (BS, EN).
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams including architects, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers.
  • Prepare detailed reports, technical specifications, and accurate fire safety drawings.
  • Provide technical support and guidance during all project phases, from initial concept to final completion.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and witness testing of installed fire safety systems.
  • Stay continuously updated with the latest advancements in fire safety technologies, best practices, and regulatory changes.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in fire safety engineering or a closely related field.
  • Strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation, building regulations, and relevant industry standards.
  • Proficiency in fire safety design principles and various fire risk assessment methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Competency in relevant software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and ideally fire dynamics simulation (FDS) tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards it.
  • Master's degree in Fire Engineering or a related advanced discipline.
  • Membership with relevant professional bodies (e.g., Institution of Fire Engineers – IFE, Society of Fire Protection Engineers – SFPE).
  • Demonstrable experience with performance-based fire engineering design.
  • Prior project management experience within an engineering consultancy environment.
