Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Wood Shop Sanding Assistant to join our team in Corner Brook. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to learn and contribute to a fast-paced manufacturing and retail environment. As a Sanding Assistant, you will be responsible for preparing wood surfaces for finishing, ensuring high-quality results. Please note that this role operates in a dusty environment, and full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided and its consistent use is mandatory. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various sanding equipment, including hand sanders and orbital sanders, to smooth and prepare wood surfaces.
- Inspect sanded wood for defects, rough spots, or imperfections, ensuring a high-quality finish.
- Clean and maintain a tidy and organized work area, adhering to all safety and housekeeping standards.
- Assist skilled craftspeople and other team members with various tasks as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and procedures, including the consistent use of provided PPE.
- Load and unload materials, following proper lifting techniques and safety guidelines.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively in a dusty environment with provided PPE.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Basic understanding of workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and processes.
- A positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, woodworking, or workshop setting.
- Familiarity with different types of wood and wood finishes.
- Valid driver's license.
