Job Description

The City of Westmount is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Weights & Measures Inspector. This entry-level position requires no prior experience as full comprehensive training will be provided. You will learn to ensure accuracy in commercial weighing and measuring devices, contributing directly to consumer confidence and fair trade within our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of commercial weighing and measuring devices (e.g., scales, gas pumps) under supervision.
  • Verify accuracy and compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Record inspection findings and prepare detailed reports.
  • Educate businesses on weights and measures standards and best practices.
  • Assist senior inspectors with investigations into complaints or discrepancies.
  • Maintain and calibrate inspection equipment.
  • Participate in all required training programs to achieve certification.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical regulations.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (for travel within the municipality).
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., science, engineering technology, administration).
  • Previous experience in a customer service or regulatory environment.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset.
