Job Description

Join GFL Environmental Inc. as a Compost Facility Operator! This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to start a career in environmental services. We are seeking motivated candidates who are eager to learn and operate heavy machinery in our state-of-the-art compost facility. No prior experience is required, as comprehensive heavy machinery training will be provided to ensure your success and safety in this vital role. You will be instrumental in the processing of organic materials, contributing to sustainable waste management practices within the Dartmouth community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of heavy machinery, including front-end loaders, excavators, and screeners, after receiving full training.
  • Monitor and manage the composting process, ensuring optimal conditions for decomposition.
  • Perform daily pre-operation checks and routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Load and unload organic waste materials and finished compost products.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the compost facility and equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with general site maintenance and manual tasks as needed.
  • Record operational data and report any issues or malfunctions.

Required Skills

  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to safety.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new tasks and machinery quickly.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Basic communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's License or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working outdoors or in a physically demanding role (not required for machinery, but general aptitude helps).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
