Job Description
Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Orthopaedic Nurse to join our highly skilled surgical ward team. This is an exciting opportunity to provide exceptional pre- and post-operative care to patients undergoing a variety of orthopaedic procedures, from joint replacements to spinal surgeries. You will play a crucial role in patient recovery, rehabilitation, and education, ensuring the highest standards of clinical excellence and patient satisfaction. We are looking for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about orthopaedic nursing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to orthopaedic patients.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Assist with pre-operative preparation and post-operative recovery, including wound care and pain management.
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, rehabilitation, and discharge planning.
- Monitor patient vital signs, identify changes in condition, and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with hospital policies and NMC guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with consultants, physiotherapists, and other multidisciplinary team members.
Required Skills
- Valid NMC registration (Adult Nurse).
- Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in an orthopaedic surgical ward setting.
- Demonstrable experience in pre and post-operative orthopaedic care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in administering medications and wound care.
- Knowledge of current best practices in orthopaedic nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in Orthopaedic Nursing.
- Experience with enhanced recovery pathways.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
