Job Description

Are you eager to start a career in essential infrastructure maintenance but lack prior experience? Nova Scotia Power is looking for a motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a City Lighting Maintenance Assistant. This is an entry-level position where no prior experience is required, as we will provide comprehensive, full training to equip you with all the skills needed to succeed. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and illumination of our urban environments by assisting with the maintenance and repair of city lighting systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced technicians with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of streetlights, traffic signals, and other city lighting infrastructure.
  • Learn to identify common issues and troubleshoot problems with lighting systems.
  • Support the installation of new lighting fixtures and components.
  • Operate basic hand tools and specialized equipment under supervision.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company procedures at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment used.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
  • Ensure work sites are kept clean and organized.

Required Skills

  • Willingness to learn and commit to a comprehensive training program.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Basic physical fitness to perform duties such as lifting, climbing (ladders/bucket trucks), and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's License (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Good communication skills.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic mechanical or electrical aptitude.
