Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Urban Designer / Masterplanner to join our dynamic team in Surrey, British Columbia. This role is ideal for a creative professional eager to contribute to impactful urban development projects, from large-scale master plans to detailed urban design guidelines. The successful candidate will play a key role in all project phases, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates looking to make British Columbia their new home.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the development of urban design and master planning concepts, from initial visioning to detailed implementation strategies.
- Prepare high-quality design drawings, reports, presentations, and other graphic materials using various software.
- Conduct site analysis, research, and data collection to inform design solutions and project strategies.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including architects, landscape architects, planners, and engineers.
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and public agencies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to project management tasks, including scope definition, schedule adherence, and budget monitoring.
- Stay abreast of current urban design trends, best practices, and innovative technologies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in urban design or master planning.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), and SketchUp.
- Strong graphic and visualization skills, with an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS).
- Familiarity with local planning policies and regulations in British Columbia.
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as Rhino or Revit.
- Professional registration or pursuit of registration in a relevant discipline (e.g., PIBC, AIBC, BCSLA).
