Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Chemical Process Engineer to join our dynamic team in Fort Smith, AR. This role is crucial for optimizing existing chemical processes, designing new process units, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical engineering principles, process simulation, and a commitment to continuous improvement. We are particularly interested in candidates who require international sponsorship to work in the U.S. and will provide support for eligible candidates through the immigration process. This is an on-site position where you will play a hands-on role in our operations, contributing directly to our production goals and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize chemical manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
  • Conduct process simulations, material, and energy balances, and economic evaluations for new and existing processes.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and enhance performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Lead or participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and other safety reviews.
  • Develop and implement process control strategies and collaborate with automation teams.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and other technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, operations, maintenance, and quality assurance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Support capital projects from conception through commissioning.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing or process industry setting.
  • Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II, SuperPro Designer).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Eligibility for international sponsorship to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or E.I.T. certification.
  • Experience with process control systems (DCS, PLC).
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience in a specific chemical industry sector relevant to Eastman's operations (e.g., specialty chemicals, polymers, intermediates).
