Job Description
We are seeking a highly creative and experienced Industrial Designer to join our dynamic team in Charlottetown. This is a unique opportunity for a talented professional to contribute to the design and development of our next generation of innovative products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional aesthetic sensibilities, technical proficiency, and a passion for user-centered design. You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from conceptualization and sketching to 3D modeling, prototyping, and final production support. Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative product concepts, sketches, and storyboards that align with brand strategy and user needs.
- Translate concepts into detailed 2D and 3D CAD models using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360).
- Create high-fidelity renderings and visualizations for internal reviews and external presentations.
- Build physical prototypes (e.g., 3D prints, foam models) to test ergonomics, form, and functionality.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, marketing, and manufacturing teams throughout the product development process.
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and market analysis to inform design decisions.
- Prepare design specifications, CMF (color, material, finish) documentation, and production files.
- Stay abreast of design trends, technological advancements, and sustainable materials.
- Present design concepts and rationale clearly and persuasively to stakeholders.
- Iterate on designs based on feedback from cross-functional teams and user testing.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional industrial design experience, preferably in consumer electronics or product design.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360).
- Expertise in rendering software (Keyshot, V-Ray, or similar).
- Strong sketching, ideation, and visualization skills.
- Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes and material properties.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong design thinking, aesthetic sensibility, and technical execution.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Industrial Design or a related field.
- Experience with UI/UX design principles and software (e.g., Adobe XD, Figma).
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices and circular economy principles.
- Experience designing for smart home devices or IoT products.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Prior experience working on products from concept to mass production.
- Experience mentoring junior designers or leading design projects.
