Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our dynamic team in Canary Wharf, London. In this hybrid role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of HSBC’s critical financial systems and infrastructure. You will work within a fast-paced environment, leveraging your expertise in automation, monitoring, and incident response to maintain highly available and resilient services. Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and efficient infrastructure and services for critical financial applications.
• Develop and implement automated solutions for deployment, monitoring, alerting, and operational tasks to reduce manual effort.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to and resolve critical incidents swiftly, ensuring minimal service disruption.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and identify root causes to prevent recurrence and improve system resilience.
• Collaborate closely with development teams (DevOps) to ensure new features are designed, built, and deployed with reliability and operational excellence in mind.
• Conduct thorough post-incident reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement preventative measures and system enhancements.
• Ensure compliance with HSBC's stringent security standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Go, Ruby, Bash) for automation.
• Strong experience with Linux operating systems and system administration, including troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Demonstrable experience with major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and managing cloud-native services.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Extensive experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Splunk).
• Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS, Load Balancing).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, ITIL).
• Previous experience working in a highly regulated industry, such as financial services.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Experience with database administration (SQL and NoSQL databases).
