Job Description
Join Hensel Phelps as a Plaster Chipping Laborer, an essential role in preparing commercial and residential sites for high-quality renovations. In this physically demanding but rewarding position, you will be responsible for the meticulous removal of old plaster and other wall materials, ensuring surfaces are perfectly prepared for new finishes. This role is crucial for the successful execution of our renovation projects, requiring attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety. You will work closely with skilled tradespeople, learning valuable insights into the construction process, and contributing directly to the transformation of spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently chip away and remove old plaster, drywall, and other wall coverings from surfaces.
- Clean and clear work areas of debris, dust, and discarded materials, maintaining a tidy and organized job site.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
- Assist skilled carpenters, painters, and other tradespeople with various tasks, contributing to overall project progress.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively under supervision.
- Transport materials within the job site using wheelbarrows or carts.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work progress and any potential issues.
- Perform other general labor duties as assigned to support project completion.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Willingness to learn new skills and follow instructions diligently.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety practices or a strong commitment to learning them.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a construction labor role, even if minimal.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools used in construction.
- OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
