Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with a strong background in quantity surveying who is looking to advance their career in a vibrant and growing region of Canada. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to the final figures. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure projects are completed within budget and to the highest standards. This role requires a meticulous approach to financial planning, excellent negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of construction processes and contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, for various projects.
  • Undertake cost analysis for project work.
  • Assist in establishing a client's requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
  • Perform risk, value management, and cost control.
  • Advise on procurement strategy.
  • Identify, analyze, and develop responses to commercial risks.
  • Prepare and analyze costs for tenders and contracts.
  • Allocate work to subcontractors and manage their payments.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims.
  • Analyze outcomes and write detailed progress reports.
  • Value completed work and arrange payments.
  • Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
  • Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in building or civil engineering projects.
  • Proven ability to manage costs and budgets on construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law and standard forms of contract (e.g., CCDC).
  • Proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Eligibility for professional accreditation (e.g., CIQS, RICS) is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional accreditation (e.g., CIQS, RICS).
  • Experience working on projects in remote or northern regions.
  • P.Eng designation or willingness to pursue.
  • Knowledge of Canadian building codes and regulations.
