Job Description
Join our dedicated team as a National Archive Assistant in a calm and focused environment. This permanent full-time position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the preservation of significant historical and administrative documents. You will learn essential archival practices, document handling, and cataloging, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of our collections. We provide comprehensive training, making this an ideal role for individuals passionate about history, information management, and detailed work, regardless of prior direct archival experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and organize incoming archival materials accurately.
- Assist with basic cataloging and indexing of documents under supervision.
- Ensure proper storage conditions for various types of media and documents.
- Retrieve and re-file documents for researchers and staff in a timely manner.
- Perform routine physical inventory checks and condition assessments of collections.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to archival standards.
- Assist with digitization projects and data entry as required.
- Follow all institutional policies and procedures for document handling and security.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently in a quiet, focused environment
- Physical ability to lift and move boxes up to 25 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
- Some prior experience in an office, library, or administrative support role
- Interest in history, archives, or information management
- Familiarity with database entry or record-keeping systems
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., history, library science, information management)
