Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Impact Research Assistant to join our sustainability and environmental compliance team in Allentown, PA. This role is crucial for supporting our ongoing environmental studies, regulatory compliance, and impact assessments. The successful candidate will divide their time between office-based data analysis and reporting, and field-based data collection and monitoring. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant environmental projects within the energy sector, ensuring PPL’s operations meet and exceed environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field visits to collect environmental data, including water samples, soil samples, and wildlife observations, following established protocols.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment such as GPS units, monitoring devices, and sampling tools.
  • Perform data entry, organization, and basic analysis using spreadsheets and environmental databases.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental reports, permits, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research on environmental topics relevant to PPL’s projects and regulatory requirements.
  • Support senior environmental specialists and scientists in various research tasks and project coordination.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all company safety policies and environmental regulations during field and office work.
  • Document findings thoroughly and contribute to the ongoing improvement of data collection and reporting methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related scientific field.
  • 1 year of experience in environmental field data collection or office-based environmental research (academic experience accepted).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for accurate data handling.
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor and varied weather conditions, as well as collaboratively in an office environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various field sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with GIS software for mapping and data visualization.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, DEP).
  • Experience with environmental sampling techniques and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of ecological principles and wildlife identification.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
