Job Description

Are you meticulous, reliable, and eager to learn? The Museum of Making Music is seeking a dedicated Museum Exhibit Installation Assistant to join our team. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals with a strong work ethic and a commitment to careful handling, as full training will be provided. You will play a crucial role in the precise and safe installation, de-installation, and maintenance of our diverse musical instrument exhibits. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians and curators with the careful installation and de-installation of museum exhibits.
  • Handle delicate artifacts, musical instruments, and display components with extreme caution and precision.
  • Follow detailed instructions and schematics for exhibit setup, ensuring proper alignment and presentation.
  • Prepare exhibit spaces, including cleaning, painting, and minor construction as needed.
  • Assist with the packing, unpacking, and inventory of exhibit materials and artifacts.
  • Operate hand tools and basic power tools safely under supervision (training provided).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in exhibition halls and storage areas.
  • Adhere strictly to museum safety protocols and artifact handling guidelines.
  • Support general museum operations as directed by the Exhibits Manager.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow instructions meticulously.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and adapt to various tasks.
  • Basic problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a warehouse, production, or delicate handling environment (not required, but a plus).
  • Interest in museums, art, music, or cultural heritage.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools or construction concepts.
