Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Historic Monument Caretaker to join our team in Sherbrooke. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who values history, enjoys a tranquil work environment, and takes pride in contributing to public service. As a Caretaker, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep, minor maintenance, and general preservation of assigned historic monuments and their immediate surroundings. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine visual inspections of historic monuments and surrounding grounds for any signs of wear, damage, or required maintenance.
- Execute light maintenance tasks, including cleaning, dusting, sweeping, and minor repairs to ensure the aesthetic and structural integrity of sites.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the immediate monument areas, including pathways, informational plaques, and landscaping features.
- Report any significant damage, safety hazards, or issues requiring specialized attention to the appropriate department supervisor promptly.
- Assist with seasonal preparations, such as protective covering installation or removal, and light winterization tasks.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with site rules and regulations by visitors, promoting respectful interaction with historical properties.
- Maintain accurate logs of daily activities, inspections, and completed maintenance tasks.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of general maintenance practices.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions meticulously.
- Good physical stamina to perform duties that may involve walking, standing, bending, and light lifting.
- A keen eye for detail and a meticulous approach to work.
- Respect for historical artifacts and public property.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in custodial, groundskeeping, or general maintenance roles (even if informal).
- Familiarity with local history or an interest in heritage preservation.
- Basic first aid certification.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset for communication within Quebec.
