Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Local Authority Senior Center Coordinator to manage the daily operations of our busy senior community center in Nuneaton. This role is crucial for creating a welcoming and engaging environment for our senior residents during day hours. You will be responsible for overseeing activities, supporting staff, ensuring the safety and well-being of attendees, and acting as a primary point of contact for families and external partners. Your work will directly contribute to improving the quality of life for seniors in our borough, helping them stay active, connected, and independent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the senior center, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery during operating hours.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a diverse range of recreational, educational, and social activities tailored to the interests and needs of senior participants.
  • Supervise and support a small team of center staff and volunteers, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all center attendees, adhering to local authority policies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Manage center resources, including budgets, supplies, and equipment maintenance.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for senior center members, their families, and external agencies and community partners.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and incidents, preparing regular reports for management.
  • Promote the senior center's programs and services within the community to encourage participation and engagement.
  • Handle inquiries and resolve concerns from members and their families in a professional and empathetic manner.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a coordinating or supervisory role, preferably within a community, social care, or senior services setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with seniors, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience in team supervision.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • A genuine passion for working with older adults and understanding their needs.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Health and Social Care, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Experience with budget management and financial record-keeping.
  • Knowledge of local authority policies and procedures related to adult social care.
  • First Aid and Safeguarding Adults certification.
  • Previous experience volunteering or working in a senior center environment.
