Job Description

McLennan County Emergency Services is actively seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as a 911 / 999 Emergency Dispatch Trainee. This is a high-demand, entry-level position where no prior experience is required. We provide comprehensive, full training to equip you with all the skills needed to become a certified and highly effective emergency dispatcher. You will be the calm voice in chaos, providing critical assistance and coordinating emergency responses for our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete an intensive training program covering emergency protocols, dispatching software, and communication techniques.
- Learn to answer incoming 911 calls, quickly and accurately assessing situations to determine the appropriate response.
- Develop skills to dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) units efficiently.
- Master the use of computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and other communication technologies.
- Practice providing clear, concise, and accurate information to callers and responding units.
- Be trained to maintain composure and professionalism during high-stress situations.
- Acquire knowledge of county geography, road networks, and emergency service jurisdictions.
- Participate in ongoing education and skill development to maintain certifications and proficiency.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with a clear and articulate speaking voice.
- Strong active listening skills and the ability to gather critical information quickly.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure.
- Demonstrated empathy and compassion for individuals in distress.
- Basic computer proficiency and typing skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in customer service or a related field involving public interaction.
