Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Provide clear, accurate, and empathetic assistance to applicants regarding unemployment insurance claims and related services.
- Guide individuals through the application process for unemployment benefits, explaining eligibility requirements and necessary documentation.
- Process and review unemployment claims, ensuring all information is complete and compliant with state and federal regulations.
- Respond to inquiries from the public in person, over the phone, and in writing, addressing concerns and resolving issues efficiently.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of claimant interactions and case details.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to uphold service standards and departmental objectives.
- Participate actively in all required paid training programs to develop a comprehensive understanding of unemployment laws, policies, and procedures.
- Educate claimants on available resources and programs designed to help them return to employment.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated empathy and patience when working with individuals facing challenging circumstances.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Basic computer proficiency and comfort with learning new software systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations (with training).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A genuine desire to serve the public and contribute to community well-being.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or some college coursework.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or other languages commonly spoken in California.
- Previous experience in a customer service or public-facing role (any industry).
- Familiarity with state government processes or public service environment.
