Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Impact Research Assistant to join our dynamic team in Santa Fe. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant environmental projects through both office-based research and hands-on field work. The successful candidate will assist senior researchers and project managers in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting environmental data, preparing reports, and supporting various initiatives aimed at assessing and mitigating environmental impacts. This position is ideal for an individual passionate about environmental science and eager to make a tangible difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field data collection, including water quality sampling, soil analysis, biological surveys, and site observations in varying weather conditions.
  • Perform data entry, management, and quality control using various software and databases.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and proposals, summarizing research findings and impact assessments.
  • Support literature reviews and desktop research to gather relevant background information for projects.
  • Operate and maintain specialized field equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Collaborate with team members on project planning, methodology development, and execution.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during field operations and office tasks.
  • Participate in client meetings and stakeholder engagements as required.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, Hydrology, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to conduct environmental field work, including sampling and data collection.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites (often remote).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience (academic or professional) with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations pertinent to New Mexico or the Southwestern US.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
