Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Science Student to join our Toowoomba team for a temporary field research and sampling role. This is an excellent opportunity for a student currently undertaking an environmental science or related degree to gain practical, hands-on experience in environmental consulting. You will work alongside experienced scientists, assisting with various field activities, data collection, and sample management. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for someone looking to apply their academic knowledge in a professional setting and contribute to meaningful environmental projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior environmental scientists with field surveys and data collection.
- Conduct environmental sampling (e.g., soil, water, vegetation) according to established protocols.
- Maintain and calibrate field equipment, ensuring accuracy and functionality.
- Accurately record field observations and data using digital and manual methods.
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis and ensure proper chain of custody procedures.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Provide support for data entry, basic analysis, and report preparation as required.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Environmental Science, Ecology, Hydrology, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
- Strong interest in environmental fieldwork and sustainable practices.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills for data recording and sample management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- A valid Australian driver's license and access to reliable transport.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of environmental sampling techniques or ecological principles.
- Previous experience with field equipment (e.g., GPS devices, water quality meters) is a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Current First Aid certificate.
