Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Journalism Intern to join our dynamic news team in Wangaratta. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for aspiring journalists to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced local news environment. You will support our digital content creation and newsgathering efforts, learning directly from experienced journalists and editors. This internship is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to all facets of modern journalism, with a strong focus on digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior journalists with research and fact-checking for news stories.
  • Draft short articles, social media posts, and website updates under supervision.
  • Conduct interviews with community members, local officials, and event organizers.
  • Attend local events, council meetings, and press conferences to gather information.
  • Help manage and curate content for our digital platforms, including website and social media.
  • Learn basic photography and videography skills for news content.
  • Contribute ideas for new stories and digital content initiatives.
  • Proofread and edit copy for accuracy and style.
  • Support administrative tasks as needed within the newsroom.
