Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Special Education Lead to join our dynamic team in Geelong. This pivotal role involves leading the development and implementation of specialized educational programs, providing expert guidance to a team of educators and therapists, and collaborating with families and external stakeholders. You will be instrumental in shaping individualized learning plans, ensuring best practice methodologies, and advocating for positive outcomes within a supportive private sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of special education professionals and support staff.
- Design, implement, and evaluate individualized education programs (IEPs) and learning plans.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and analyses of student learning needs and progress.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic support.
- Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and legislative changes in special education.
- Develop and deliver professional development workshops for staff and community members.
- Manage caseloads, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Contribute to program development and strategic planning initiatives for special education services.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in special education or related fields.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Expertise in various assessment tools and intervention strategies for diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans effectively.
- Comprehensive understanding of educational legislation and policies.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting for student progress.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working in a private sector or consultancy environment.
- Familiarity with the Australian curriculum framework and VCE/VCAL pathways.
- Accreditation in specific intervention programs (e.g., ABA, Hanen, PECS).
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check.
