Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Knowledge Management Specialist to join our legal team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This pivotal role involves optimizing the way our firm captures, organizes, shares, and leverages its extensive legal knowledge and expertise. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining robust knowledge management systems, ensuring that our legal professionals have immediate access to the critical information needed to deliver high-quality client services efficiently. You will work closely with various legal departments to identify knowledge needs, implement best practices, and contribute to the firm’s continuous improvement in knowledge sharing and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain knowledge management strategies, policies, and procedures tailored for a legal environment.
  • Curate, organize, and index legal precedents, templates, research materials, practice notes, and other critical knowledge assets.
  • Administer and enhance the firm's knowledge management systems, including document management systems, intranets, and specialized legal databases.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to legal professionals on the effective use of KM tools and resources.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to identify knowledge gaps and develop solutions for improved knowledge capture and dissemination.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in legal knowledge management to recommend and implement innovative solutions.
  • Ensure the accuracy, currency, and accessibility of all knowledge assets.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with legal professionals at all levels.
  • Proficiency in managing and navigating complex information systems and databases.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A solid understanding of information architecture principles and content classification.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Management, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a legal or professional services environment, ideally in a knowledge management or information specialist role.
  • Familiarity with specific legal research platforms (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) and document management systems.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training programs.
