Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Summer Intern to join our Environmental Science Projects team. This is an excellent opportunity for students passionate about environmental science, conservation, and sustainable energy to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic federal agency. The intern will assist with various environmental projects, data collection, analysis, and reporting, contributing directly to our mission of balancing power delivery with environmental protection. This role is designed for individuals with little to no prior professional experience, offering comprehensive training and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist environmental scientists and specialists with field data collection, including water quality, habitat assessments, and biological monitoring.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research on environmental regulations, best practices, and scientific methodologies.
  • Support data entry, organization, and preliminary analysis using GIS and other relevant software.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation related to ongoing environmental projects.
  • Participate in team meetings, workshops, and site visits to understand project scope and objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of environmental impact assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during fieldwork and office activities.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Hydrology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in environmental conservation and sustainable resource management.
  • Basic understanding of scientific principles and research methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with basic data collection tools or scientific equipment (e.g., GPS, pH meters).
  • Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Previous coursework or projects related to environmental policy, statistics, or data analysis.
  • A valid driver's license.
