Key Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls from the public with empathy and professionalism.
- Gather critical information quickly and accurately from callers in high-stress situations.
- Provide clear, concise, and life-saving pre-arrival instructions to callers, including CPR and first aid guidance.
- Determine the appropriate level of response and dispatch ambulance resources efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of all calls and dispatched units using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Communicate effectively with ambulance crews, police, fire services, and other emergency personnel.
- Remain calm and composed under pressure, demonstrating resilience and compassion.
- Adhere to all SA Ambulance Service policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to listen actively and gather information efficiently.
- Exceptional ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Basic computer literacy and typing skills.
- A genuine desire to help others and serve the community.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service, call center, or public-facing role (not essential, but beneficial).
- Proficiency in additional languages.
- Familiarity with medical terminology (training will be provided).
