Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and proactive Government Mailroom Operative to join our dedicated team in Norwich. This active role involves managing the efficient flow of mail and parcels within a secure government facility. As a key member of our operations, you will ensure timely and accurate distribution, contribute to the smooth running of daily services, and uphold the highest standards of security and confidentiality. Key Responsibilities
- Sort, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, parcels, and secure documents.
- Operate mailroom equipment, including franking machines, scanners, and sorting machinery.
- Maintain accurate records of all mailroom activities, including special deliveries and registered items.
- Liaise with internal departments and external couriers to ensure efficient mail services.
- Adhere strictly to all security protocols and confidentiality guidelines for handling sensitive government information.
- Perform general administrative tasks related to mailroom operations as required.
- Assist with package handling, including lifting and moving items as per health and safety guidelines.
- Proactively identify and report any issues or discrepancies in mail handling.
Required Skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office suite).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow strict procedures and guidelines.
- Physical ability to lift and move mail sacks and parcels (up to 15kg).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a mailroom, administrative, or logistics environment is a plus, but not essential.
- A valid UK driving license may be beneficial for occasional off-site deliveries.
- Experience with document management systems.
- Willingness to undergo and pass a background check and security clearance (e.g., DBS check).
