Job Description
Join the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary as a Trainee and embark on a rewarding career dedicated to public safety and maritime service. This entry-level position offers comprehensive paid training, equipping you with the vital skills needed to contribute to search and rescue operations, boating safety initiatives, and environmental protection. No prior experience in maritime operations is required; we provide all necessary instruction and certifications. Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all phases of paid training programs, including classroom instruction and practical exercises.
- Learn and apply search and rescue techniques, navigation, communication protocols, and vessel operations.
- Assist experienced auxiliary members in responding to maritime incidents, including distress calls and environmental spills.
- Contribute to the maintenance and readiness of auxiliary vessels and equipment.
- Support public outreach and education efforts on boating safety within the community.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and operational procedures established by the CCGA.
- Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team to achieve operational objectives.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated strong desire to learn and commitment to public service.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good physical condition suitable for maritime work and training.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving aptitude and ability to follow instructions.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada and pass a security clearance.
- Basic swimming proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) driver’s license.
- Basic First Aid or CPR certification.
- Previous experience with recreational boating or water sports.
- Familiarity with local Selkirk waterways (Red River, Lake Winnipeg).
