Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Transplant Surgeon to join our esteemed surgical team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our organ transplantation programme, performing complex surgical procedures, managing pre-operative and post-operative patient care, and contributing to the advancement of transplant medicine. This role requires an individual with extensive experience in transplant surgery, a commitment to clinical excellence, and a passion for improving patient outcomes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, engaging with nephrologists, hepatologists, immunologists, anaesthetists, specialist nurses, and other allied health professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex organ transplantation surgeries (e.g., kidney, liver, pancreas) with a high degree of precision and adherence to established protocols.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments and evaluations of transplant candidates.
  • Manage post-operative care, including monitoring for complications, immunosuppression management, and long-term follow-up.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for organ retrieval and emergency transplant procedures.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and grand rounds.
  • Engage in clinical research, audits, and quality improvement initiatives related to transplant surgery.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior medical staff, residents, and fellows.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of procedures, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, ethical guidelines, and professional standards of practice.

Required Skills

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise.
  • Specialist registration in General Surgery (or equivalent) with sub-specialty accreditation in Transplant Surgery.
  • Extensive experience in kidney and/or liver transplantation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex surgical techniques.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a high-pressure, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MD or PhD in a relevant field.
  • Fellowship training in Transplant Surgery from a recognised institution.
  • Experience in multi-organ retrieval and transplantation.
  • Proven track record in clinical research and publications.
  • Teaching and supervisory experience.
