Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic laboratory team at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. This is a critical role responsible for performing complex diagnostic tests, analyzing samples, and contributing to the accurate diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. The successful candidate will work across multiple disciplines, including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and immunology. Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of diagnostic tests on patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) using automated analyzers and manual techniques.
- Analyze test results, interpret data, and report findings accurately and efficiently to clinicians.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and calibration.
- Adhere strictly to quality control procedures, laboratory safety regulations, and accredited standards.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs to maintain high testing standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new tests, procedures, and technologies.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory services and patient care.
- Ensure proper record-keeping and data management in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Strong understanding of laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and quality control procedures.
- Proficiency in interpreting and validating diagnostic test results.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific field.
- Professional certification (e.g., ASCP MLS, HCPC registration, or equivalent).
- Previous experience working in an accredited clinical laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
