Job Description
Are you passionate about animal welfare and looking for a fulfilling outdoor role? Wyre Forest District Council is seeking an enthusiastic Animal Control Officer Trainee to join our dedicated team. This is an entry-level position where no prior experience is required, as full training will be provided. You will learn to respond to calls regarding stray, lost, or nuisance animals, investigate animal cruelty complaints, and enforce local animal control ordinances. This is a hands-on role requiring compassion, resilience, and a commitment to public safety and animal well-being. You will be an ambassador for responsible pet ownership within our community, working largely outdoors in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and investigate calls regarding stray, lost, or found animals.
- Safely capture and transport animals to appropriate facilities.
- Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and local animal control laws.
- Investigate reports of animal cruelty or neglect under supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, actions, and animal dispositions.
- Assist with community outreach programs related to animal welfare.
- Perform routine patrols to identify potential animal control issues.
- Collaborate with local police, vets, and animal shelters.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
Required Skills
- No prior experience required; full training provided.
- Strong commitment to animal welfare and public safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in potentially stressful situations.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Physical ability to handle animals of varying sizes and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Experience volunteering with animals.
- Knowledge of the local Wyre Forest area.
