Job Description
Are you passionate about art, history, and the meticulous process of preservation? Cumbrian Heritage Conservation is excited to offer an Art Restoration & Conservation Intern position, a unique opportunity for individuals with no prior experience to step into the fascinating world of art conservation. This entry-level internship is designed to provide comprehensive hands-on training and foundational knowledge in various conservation techniques. You will work alongside experienced conservators, learning about the assessment, treatment, and preventive care of diverse artworks and artifacts. This role is perfect for someone eager to learn, possessing a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to preserving cultural heritage. Full training will be provided, ensuring you gain valuable practical skills and theoretical understanding.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior conservators with various art restoration and conservation projects.
- Learn and apply basic cleaning, documentation, and minor repair techniques under supervision.
- Help with the preparation of artworks for treatment, photography, and storage.
- Participate in the detailed documentation of object condition, treatment proposals, and completed work.
- Monitor environmental conditions in storage and exhibition areas, learning about their impact on artifacts.
- Assist with material analysis and research related to specific conservation challenges.
- Maintain a clean and organized studio workspace, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
