Job Description
Are you passionate about food and eager to start a career in specialty retail? Sobeys is excited to offer an entry-level Artisan Cheesemonger Trainee position in Lethbridge! This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of fine cheeses, learn the art of affinage (cheese aging and care), and develop expert retail and customer service skills. No prior experience is required – we will provide comprehensive, hands-on training from day one. You’ll work alongside experienced cheesemongers, discovering different cheese varieties, their origins, pairings, and proper handling techniques. Key Responsibilities
- Undergo comprehensive training in cheese identification, cutting, wrapping, and storage techniques.
- Learn about various cheese types, regions, flavor profiles, and ideal pairings.
- Assist customers with cheese selections, offer samples, and provide expert recommendations.
- Maintain immaculate cheese displays, ensuring proper labeling and presentation.
- Monitor cheese quality, rotate stock, and manage inventory under supervision.
- Learn and apply food safety and sanitation standards specific to specialty food handling.
- Participate in affinage practices, including turning, brushing, and monitoring cheese development.
- Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Contribute to a positive and engaging shopping experience for all customers.
Required Skills
- Eagerness and willingness to learn about specialty foods, particularly cheese.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and a friendly demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Basic computer literacy for point-of-sale systems.
