Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Broadcast Engineer to join our technical operations team in Harrogate. This role is crucial for maintaining the high standards of our broadcast infrastructure, ensuring the smooth operation of our studios, transmission systems, and associated equipment. The successful candidate will be involved in preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, and the implementation of new technologies, contributing directly to the quality and reliability of ITV’s programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on broadcast equipment including cameras, vision mixers, audio consoles, routing systems, and transmission chains.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical faults efficiently to minimize broadcast interruptions.
  • Install, configure, and commission new broadcast hardware and software.
  • Provide technical support to production teams during live broadcasts and studio recordings.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and logs of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Monitor broadcast signals and quality using specialized test equipment.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and broadcast industry standards.
  • Participate in project work for system upgrades and infrastructure improvements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Broadcast Engineer or similar technical role in a broadcast environment.
  • Strong understanding of video and audio principles, standards, and signal flows.
  • Proficiency with a range of broadcast equipment, including SDI, IP video, vision mixers, audio desks, and file-based workflows.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues quickly and effectively.
  • Familiarity with broadcast IT systems and networking fundamentals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or HND in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with specific ITV broadcast systems or similar enterprise-level broadcast solutions.
  • Knowledge of IP contribution and distribution technologies (e.g., SMPTE ST 2110).
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance for broadcast (Ofcom standards in the UK).
  • Certification in relevant broadcast or IT technologies.
