Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Chief Data Officer (CDO) to lead our comprehensive data strategy and governance initiatives. This critical role involves setting the strategic direction for data management, architecture, quality, and analytics across the organisation. The CDO will be instrumental in harnessing the power of data to drive innovation, improve operational efficiency, and provide deep insights that support our business objectives and customer needs. This position reports directly to the executive leadership team and plays a pivotal role in shaping our data-driven culture and ensuring regulatory compliance in data practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a robust enterprise-wide data strategy aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee data governance, data quality, data architecture, and data security frameworks to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of data professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Drive the adoption of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI initiatives to extract actionable insights from vast datasets.
  • Champion data literacy and data-driven decision-making across all levels of the organisation.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, IT, legal, and compliance, to ensure data initiatives meet business needs.
  • Identify and implement new data technologies and tools to enhance data capabilities and efficiency.
  • Ensure strict adherence to data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in data management, data analytics, or related fields, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing enterprise-wide data strategies in large, complex organisations, preferably within financial services.
  • Deep expertise in data governance, data quality, master data management, and data architecture principles.
  • Strong understanding of big data technologies, cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP), and data warehousing solutions.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with executive stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data privacy regulations and security best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading high-performing data teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CDMP, TOGAF).
  • Experience with AI/ML operationalization and MLOps practices.
  • Familiarity with financial services specific data models and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical data concepts into business value.
