Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated City Bike Share Fleet Mechanic to join our Birmingham team. This outdoor role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and excellent condition of our public bike share fleet across the city. You will be responsible for the routine maintenance, repair, and rebalancing of bicycles, playing a vital part in sustainable urban transport. This is a hands-on position perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a passion for mechanics, and wants to contribute directly to the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on bike share bicycles at various docking stations and depots.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues, including brakes, gears, tires, and electrical components (where applicable).
- Conduct on-street repairs and adjustments to keep bikes operational and safe for public use.
- Utilize a company vehicle to rebalance bikes across docking stations, ensuring availability where needed.
- Accurately record maintenance activities, bike status, and inventory using a mobile application.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and operational procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with the public, answering questions and assisting where possible.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both in the field and at the depot.
Required Skills
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in an outdoor environment.
- Physical fitness, capable of lifting bikes (up to 25kg) and performing repetitive tasks.
- Valid UK driving license with a clean driving record.
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for data entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with bicycle maintenance or repair.
- Knowledge of basic electronics and diagnostic tools.
- Experience in a field service or outdoor maintenance role.
- Familiarity with Birmingham's road network.
