Job Description
Join Kootenay Artisan Bakery as a Commercial Baker / Pastry Chef and become an integral part of our creative and dynamic team. This full-time position is ideal for experienced and passionate bakers and pastry chefs seeking a rewarding career opportunity in a vibrant community. We are actively seeking international talent and are prepared to support successful candidates with Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and/or Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) processes, ensuring a smooth transition to working in Canada. You will be responsible for the production of a wide range of baked goods, from artisan breads to intricate pastries, maintaining our high standards of quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a variety of breads, pastries, cakes, cookies, and other baked goods according to recipes and production schedules.
- Decorate pastries and cakes with precision and creativity, adhering to established design standards.
- Operate and maintain commercial baking equipment, including ovens, mixers, and proofers.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and raw materials, and place orders as needed.
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards (HACCP, provincial health regulations).
- Assist in the development of new recipes and innovative bakery products.
- Manage baking production to meet daily demand, minimize waste, and ensure freshness.
- Train and mentor junior baking staff as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation and production area.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Commercial Baker or Pastry Chef.
- Strong understanding of baking principles, techniques, and ingredient functions.
- Proficiency in operating commercial baking equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and a passion for creating high-quality baked goods.
- Basic math skills for recipe scaling and ingredient measurements.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary diploma or certificate in baking and pastry arts.
- Experience with sourdough and other artisan bread production.
- Creative flair for pastry decoration and design.
- Knowledge of different dietary restrictions and ability to adapt recipes (e.g., gluten-free, vegan).
- Food Handler's Certificate.
