Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Court Bailiff / Security Officer to ensure the safety and security of the Linn County Courthouse, its personnel, and the public. This vital role involves maintaining order in courtrooms, providing security for judges and court staff, and responding to emergency situations. You will be responsible for enforcing court rules, conducting security screenings, and assisting with the secure transport of documents or individuals as needed. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain order and decorum within courtrooms and other court facilities.
- Provide security for judges, jurors, witnesses, and other court personnel.
- Conduct security screenings of individuals entering courthouse facilities.
- Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, disturbances, and emergency situations.
- Escort and monitor defendants, ensuring secure movement within the courthouse.
- Enforce court policies, procedures, and directives.
- Serve as a visible deterrent to unlawful activities and maintain a strong security presence.
- Assist the public with directions and general information regarding court procedures.
- Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate records of security activities.
Required Skills
- Excellent observational and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
- Physical fitness to perform security duties, including standing, walking, and occasional physical intervention.
- Basic knowledge of security procedures and public safety principles.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Iowa Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, or military.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- High School Diploma or GED; some college coursework in criminal justice is a plus.
- Knowledge of courthouse operations and legal terminology.
