Job Description

No prior experience in customs or law enforcement is required; we provide comprehensive training from day one. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to learn about international trade, customs regulations, and border security, all while contributing to the nation’s well-being. You will develop critical skills in a supportive environment, working alongside experienced professionals to ensure compliance and facilitate legitimate trade.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in a structured training program to develop a thorough understanding of customs laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Assist senior officers in monitoring goods entering and exiting the UK, including conducting routine checks and inspections.
- Learn to identify potential risks and suspicious activities related to customs fraud, smuggling, and prohibited goods.
- Support the collection and processing of customs duties, taxes, and tariffs.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to customs declarations and clearances.
- Communicate effectively with freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and other stakeholders under supervision.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to ensure smooth border operations.
- Adhere strictly to all departmental policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- No prior experience required – full training provided.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to learn new information quickly and adapt to changing regulations.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A keen interest in international trade, law enforcement, or public service.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Resilience and a calm demeanor under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above.
- Knowledge of an additional language.
- Experience in a customer service or administrative role.
- Full UK driving license.
