Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Dairy Farm Milking Assistant to join our team for early morning rural work. This role is crucial to the daily operation of our farm, ensuring the health and productivity of our herd. You will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the milking process, maintaining cleanliness, and contributing to the overall well-being of our dairy cows. This is a hands-on position requiring a commitment to early starts and a strong work ethic in an outdoor, agricultural setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the morning milking routine, including setting up equipment, bringing cows to the parlour, and monitoring the milking process.
- Clean and sanitise milking equipment and the milking parlour before and after use to maintain high hygiene standards.
- Monitor cow health and behaviour during milking, reporting any issues or concerns to the farm manager.
- Ensure cows are comfortable and well-fed, assisting with feeding routines as needed.
- Maintain general cleanliness and tidiness of the farmyard and surrounding areas.
- Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and animal welfare standards.
- Collaborate with other farm staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to work early morning shifts, typically starting between 4-5 AM.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Strong work ethic and ability to perform physical tasks in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Genuine interest in animal welfare and agricultural practices.
- Basic understanding of farm machinery and equipment (training provided).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working on a dairy farm or with livestock.
- Full UK driving license due to rural location.
- Basic knowledge of dairy cow health and nutrition.
