Job Description

FirstGroup plc is seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join our team as Trainee Tram Drivers in Leeds. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with no prior experience in tram operations. We provide full, accredited training from day one, equipping you with all the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate our state-of-the-art trams. You will play a crucial role in providing an excellent public transport service, ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all phases of the comprehensive Tram Driver training program.
- Learn and adhere strictly to all safety regulations, operational procedures, and company policies.
- Operate trams safely and efficiently along designated routes and timetables.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with passengers, control staff, and colleagues.
- Conduct pre-service and post-service checks of the tram to ensure operational readiness and report any defects.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers and ensuring a pleasant journey.
- Manage unexpected situations professionally, including minor delays or passenger inquiries.
- Maintain a high level of concentration and vigilance during duty.
- Be a punctual and reliable member of the operational team.
Required Skills
- No prior experience required – full training provided.
- Valid UK driving licence with a maximum of 6 penalty points.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to rules.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good judgment and problem-solving abilities.
- Punctual and reliable work ethic.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- A genuine desire to provide excellent customer service.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of local geography in Leeds and surrounding areas.
