Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator with expertise in Oracle and SQL Server to join our robust technology team in Canary Wharf. This role is critical to ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of our vast database infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of our databases, from design and implementation to maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle and SQL Server databases.
- Monitor database performance, implement tuning strategies, and troubleshoot issues.
- Perform database backups, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Implement and maintain database security, including user access and permissions.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, standards, and procedures.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database queries and schemas.
- Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades with minimal downtime.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical database incidents as part of a rotation.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator.
- Strong proficiency in Oracle database administration (12c, 19c or higher).
- Strong proficiency in SQL Server database administration (2016, 2019 or higher).
- Experience with database backup and recovery strategies (RMAN, SQL Server native backups).
- Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
- Understanding of database security best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
- Familiarity with database high availability solutions (AlwaysOn, Data Guard).
- Certifications in Oracle or SQL Server administration (e.g., OCP, MCSE: Data Platform).
- Experience in a financial services environment.
