Job Description

As the Director of Nursing at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, you will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for all nursing operations. This pivotal role involves overseeing patient care standards, clinical excellence, and the professional development of our nursing staff. You will be instrumental in fostering a collaborative and compassionate environment, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all nursing services within the hospital.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing policies and procedures to ensure best practices.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and internal quality metrics.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Manage departmental budgets, allocate resources efficiently, and optimize staffing levels to meet patient needs.
  • Collaborate with other departmental directors and healthcare leaders to optimize interdisciplinary care and operational efficiency.

  • Act as a visible leader, representing nursing interests within the hospital, community, and broader health system.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership and management experience in a complex healthcare setting, preferably a hospital.
  • Exceptional clinical knowledge and understanding of best practices in nursing and patient care.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with a track record of effective team building.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Proficiency in budget management, resource allocation, and operational planning.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a diverse team of nursing professionals.
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or eligibility for registration upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Certification in Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC) or other recognized nursing leadership certification.
  • Experience working within a large, multi-site health system, preferably in a regional hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous health practices and cultural competencies relevant to Alberta's population.
